Art Quality Stamp by MissMonkeyMam Art Quality Stamp by MissMonkeyMam
Yeah, I know, I made another stamp. ^^;

But I felt that this one was important.

Say for instance you made something in Paint (the computer program), and it is really amusing and/or has a positive message and you are really proud of it. Then someone comes by and says you totally stink at creating artwork and stink at everything else that really doesn't matter but still hurts when someone says that to you.
That kind of behavior needs to stop, please.
Thank you.

EDIT: They way I see it is that you shouldn't just judge a person automaticaly by the quality of their art. It doesn't seem very fair. This stamp was directed to the little unpopular people who get flamed because they did a piece of artwork in Paint or it doesn't make it to the popular list or it's just a cute little doodle that to some may seem like a waste of time and effort.

All I'm trying to say is, don't say someone is a bad person because there artwork is of bad quality, give them a chance, maybe they'll get even better at art, you won't know unless you let them try.

Also, basicly everyone that I've met who has totally amazing artwork have been polite, kind and down right awesome.
So if I have offened any of the Senior members or Profesional artists, then I appologize wholeheartedly.

One more thing, I'm am not saying that Paint is a bad program either. I seen some awesome artwork that was created in Paint.

This is my opinion, you don't have to agree with it. Whether you take it or leave it, it's your choice entirely.

I need this stamp.

I don't judge by their art quality. I judge them by their heart quality.

Too often, I see people come at newer artists who haven't got a knack for drawing yet. There's tons of blogs and whatnot making fun of poorly drawn art. I understand pointing out absurd art like stick figures drawn in a few seconds for no reason, but some of the art being made fun of, you could tell the artist put a lot of work into. It takes time to develop these skills and we all start somewhere. Unless you have any kind words that can help that artist improve, don't go spamming their profile telling them to be ashamed of themselves. I once found a Tumblr blog sending death threats to pony artists.

But I though art is for expressing yourself and it simply says a lot about you...

Seems I was wrong.

I like this stamp :3
It fits me- I don't judge quality (even if it is terrible/amateur) and at least point out what I like about it.

But when the person doesn't try to get good or the subject is bad, is when I start judging [VERY HARSHLY].

i have the same problem as you do ( not of my things her but when i do things in school and stuff)

I feel like people take what I do for granted. Yes I use bases, but as a base maker, I see different base users take a simple base and make it into many creative ways. Those who say it looks the same are very narrow-minded to see the uniqueness in art. If people broaden their horizons and look at art, they'd be surprised.

Isn't it happens to everyone:
You piss someone off - and they start insulting your appearance/name/surname/etc. Because they don't have any other arguments against you?

This is the same as :
"Don't judge cooks by the quality of their food"
"Don't judge engineers by the quality of their products"

It doesn't make sense.

He's right though. What if you buy a bed and you get stabbed in the throat by one of the springs, because the maker made the worst bed ever. Or what if you ate at a restaurant with a chef who couldn't cook shit, and you got food poisoning.

I think bad behavior (from the artist) is more annoying than bad artwork.

I 100% agree with the stamp.
Even the best of artists had to start somewhere.

I have a friend who does that. :I A lot. Anyone she feels isn't good at drawing she'll be quite rude/judgmental about it. Personally, I don't care if you're horrible or the best artist on dA- as long as you're nice to me, I'll be nice to you.

I agree that some are way too harsh on younger artists.
But then we have the asshole who pressed his asshole against a canvas, called it art and is called a genius. (Anal kiss - Wim Delvoye) People like that can just fuck right off.

Wolfangkun Featured By Owner Apr 27, 2012  Student Traditional Artist
while i agree that you shouldn't judge that harshly, there are some artists on here that look like they drew from an etch a sketch.
SonOfBeso Featured By Owner Mar 13, 2012  Hobbyist Writer
We're on an art portal, that is, a website, where it's primary purpose is to showcase ones artistic talent, or lack thereof, to the general public.

If we are not to judge somebody here, based on their artwork, then how exactly do we determine the worth of an individual.

If one doesn't wish to be judged, then perhaps one should not post their work online, for everyone to see, especially on a website where the primary purpose involves the showcasing of artistic talent.

Not judging an 'artist' by their artwork would be like not judging a baker, by the quality of their food, or not judging a carpenter by the quality of his work.
Tamuu-ii Featured By Owner Apr 12, 2012  Student Digital Artist
I think they mean, you shouldn't automatically think that people are bad or stupid because there art doesn't have 'good quality' c:
SonOfBeso Featured By Owner Apr 13, 2012  Hobbyist Writer
I both agree and disagree with you.

First of all, it's the internet. People are going to be mean, and if someone doesn't like it, they should get the fuck off of the web.
However, the general public should have some discretion.

But, nevertheless, it comes down onto the artist knowing their environment.
They want to post here, they should be well aware of what they are delving into.

Yes... just yes.

I know a friend of mine who's 17, but people think that he's 5 just because he can't draw. He uses common sense though and acts like a 17-year-old, so I don't think he's 5.

I love this stamp. :) All I ever DO is doodle with watercolors.
InfinitePocky Featured By Owner Feb 8, 2012  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I dont tend to judge people's personalities by their art lol. Meaning it doesnt go..
Bad art= bad person (How on earth does this even relate? The person's just out of practice)
Bad art= bad artist
This is an art site. If you didnt judge artistic skill with art, I'd be surprised.

(HOWEVER. i do think that brilliant and experienced artists on DA may be more likely to be better mannered- they've probably been dealing with commissioners, thieves and flaming, raging trolls for some time. One expects an artist with experiences like that to have a fair amount of patience and manners.)
